Principal Child and Family Social Worker

Carol Johnson

Carol qualified as a social worker in 2001 and has worked at practitioner and manager level within Assessment, Family Support, Safeguarding and Children in Care in Local Authorities in England for the majority of her career. Carol lived in Beirut, Lebanon for 2 years working with social work teams engaging with refugee populations with a focus on Child Protection, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, and Adult Protection. Carol also spent time working for the NSPCC as a manager within their sexual abuse service centre in Peterborough. Carol has therefore gained a wide range of experience both within statutory and non-statutory settings.

Carol joined Cambridgeshire in 2020 as LADO and then became Principal Child and Family Social Worker for Peterborough and Cambridgeshire in early October 2021. The remit of the Principal Social Worker is to be the voice of social work and the champion of good practice for Children’s Services. Carol is passionate about social work and about supporting all staff, developing their professionalism, and enabling them to be the most effective and fulfilled practitioners delivering the best possible services to vulnerable children and families. Central to this are Peterborough and Cambridgeshire’s Children’s Social Care Practice Standards.
